Monitoring of court cases for crimes related to trafficking and illegal migration 2010

Period of implementation: Januari, 2011 - August, 2011

Main objectives

Noting changes from the previous monitoring of court cases for crimes related to trafficking and illegal migration as well as monitoring the implementation of new mechanisms in order to more successful fight against organized crime. Proposing measures to improve judicial handling of cases related to trafficking and providing support for finding an adequate response as a punishment of committing such crimes.

Raising the awareness of the professional and general public in the fight against this type of organized crime by holding a press conference, drafting the final analysis with statistics and recommendations on the effectiveness of court and other competent institutions to deal with this phenomenon.

Project Activities

  • The project aims will be achieved through the following activities:
    Main instrument for the planned observations will be the questionnaire that covers all relevant areas of litigation. The questionnaire contains 60 questions which are closely related to judicial proceedings and will be completed after each session executed by the observer. Coalition All for Fair Trials has a team of experienced observers (20 observers), who have been monitoring in the courts all over the Republic. The monitoring will be carried through all the courts where cases have been reported for above-mentioned crimes. The monitoring will be implemented throughout the project cycle smoothly.
  • The envisaged workshop is planned to be organized as before in collaboration with the Academy for Training of Judges and Prosecutors. The theme, its processing and preparation of the content of the workshop are carried out by the Coalition while the Academy is responsible for the logistical preparation, space and inviting listeners - judges, prosecutors and associates. After the completion of the workshop, brief report will be prepared . Evaluation forms will be given to the listeners in order to assess the quality of the workshop.
  • The legal analysis will be prepared by the Project Coordinator (Law degree), who based on observational data collected and summarized results of the workshops will be asked to write the analysis, conclusions and derive recommendations for improving judicial efficiency in the fight against organized crime with particular reference to human trafficking and illegal migration.
  • The legal analysis will be published on the official website of the Coalition All for Fair Trials www.all4fairtrials.org.mk

Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration in Macedonia
2009/2010

Period of implementation: August , 2009 - April, 2010

Key objectives

The goal of the project is to contribute to strengthening the role of the judiciary in providing adequate response and prosecution of trafficking in human beings. The project is achieving this by data gathering through trial monitoring which provides information about the weaknesses in functioning of the judiciary and by providing recommendations for overcoming them.

Trafficking in human beings watch project

Period of implementation: January 2008 – December 2008

Key objectives

Identification of the findings, gathered through the monitoring of the cases for Trafficking in human beings, Mediation in prostitution and Smuggling of migrants, and analyses of the problems connected to the legal regulative and its interpretation in the practice of the courts in Republic of Macedonia.

Project Activities

  • Trial monitoring of the cases related to Trafficking in human beings
  • Interviews with the main actors in the Criminal procedure (judges, public prosecutor, lawyers and representatives of the ministry of Interior), on some procedural problems
  • Preparation of the report Trafficking in human beings and illegal migration as perceived by key actors in the criminal procedure

 

Efficiency of the Courts when dealing with Organized Crime cases 2005/2006/2007

Period of implementation: January 2007 – December 2007

Key objectives

Assessment of the mechanisms for fighting against organized crime in Republic of Macedonia, especially for the cases related to Trafficking in human beings, with final objective to create better picture for possibilities for improvement the fight against these kinds of Organized crime.

  • Observing the Trafficking in human beings and Organized crime related cases
  • Identification of the different types of organized crime in Macedonia
  • Preparation of the Final report for 2005/2006/2007

 

Criminal Justice Responses to Organized Crime

Period of implementation: January, 2006 - December, 2006

Key objectives

Assessment of the existing mechanisms for combating organized crime in the Republic of Macedonia established and developed by specialized bodies authorized and entitled to suppress this serious and rapidly expending phenomenon.

Project Activities

  • Observation of trafficking in human beings and other organized crime related trials
  • Identification of the various forms of organized crimes that exist in our country
  • Follow up the recommendations from the Trafficking in Human Beings report 2005
  • Preparation of a report on the situation in 2005 and 2006
  • Organizing Round table

 

Countrywide observation of Trafficking in Human Beings related trials

Period of implementation: November, 2004 - December, 2005

Key objectives

Contribute to the implementation of the Government's Anti-Trafficking National Plan of Action.
